Outlook 97 and Outlook Express Configuration and Setup Guide

Quick Start

Use these settings if you are familiar with configuring e-mail clients

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server:  pop.trxinc.com

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:  smtp.trxinc.com

Instructions for Outlook Express

These are instructions for configuring Outlook Express (Internet Explorer 4.0’s e-mail client), to check your e-mail through TRX, Inc. If you have any trouble with sending or receiving e-mail after following the instructions, go back through them to verify the settings. It may be helpful to read through all the instructions, as some computers display the informational screens at different points in the setup. If you still are having problems contact TRX Inc: at (319) 283-1074. If you call TRX with a problem it may be helpful to have information about your computer, such as processor type, RAM, and operating system information. If it is possible, be in front of your computer when you call.

Start Outlook Express. You can do this by: double-clicking on the Internet Explorer icon, when it loads, connect to the Internet and then click the Mail button that is in the top-right of your screen.

From the options tool bar, click Read Mail

If you don’t have any active Outlook Express accounts, you may be presented with a "Browse for Folder" window. Just pick the default location for your messages and click OK (if you don’t get this window, just continue to the next step).

You will now be presented with a "Your Name" window which asks for your display name. Just enter your full name (first and last) in the empty "Display name" field and click Next (if you don’t get this window, but simply are put into the Outlook Express main window, go to the section "Adding more e-mail accounts").

Now enter your e-mail address in the blank "E-mail address" field, then click Next

You are now in the "E-mail Server Names" window. Under "My incoming server is a ? server", use the pull down menu to change it to: POP3 (the default value for this is POP3 so most users will not have to change this).

Next, type pop.trxinc.com in the blank "Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server" field.

Then, type smtp.trxinc.com in the blank "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" field. After filling in these fields, click Next

The next window is "Internet Mail Logon". Click Log on using

Then, type your POP account name in the provided field.

Also, type your POP account password in the provided field. After filling in these fields, click Next

Choose a "Friendly Name" for your account, this can be anything you want (we recommend that you use your name or your e-mail address as a "friendly name").

Choose a Connection Type. Click Connect using my phone line

Choose a Dial-Up connection. Click Use an existing dial-up connection, and then click TRX from the list below. Then click Next

To save the settings click Finish

You will now be presented with the option of importing any addresses from previous e-mail clients you have installed on your machine. Choose the programs you want to import from and click Next (if you do not get this screen, just continue past this step).

You will now be transferred to the main Outlook Express screen. To read your mail click the Read Mail icon, or click the Inbox folder in the left hand column.

Adding More E-Mail Accounts

Open Internet Explorer by double-clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop, and then connect to the internet.

Locate the "Mail" icon in your upper-right hand corner of Internet Explorer and click once. Click Read Mail

Click on "Tools" pull-down menu and click Accounts

Click the Mail tab (it may already be selected)

Click on the Add button and click Mail from the pop-out menu.

Instructions for Outlook 97

These are instructions for configuring Outlook 97 that comes with Microsoft Office (or can be purchased separately), to check your e-mail through TRX, Inc. If you have any trouble with sending or receiving e-mail after following the instructions, go back through them to verify the settings. It may be helpful to read through all the instructions, as some computers display the informational screens at different points in the setup. Open Outlook 97. The may be accessed by either an icon on your desktop or a icon in your Start Menu.

You will now be brought to the main window of Outlook Express. Click on "Tools" menu and then "Services"

Now you will get a list of installed services. Check for "Internet Mail" in the list, if you do not see it click the Add button (if you already have Internet Mail installed, go to step 5).

Under "Available information services" click Internet Mail, and then click OK (skip to step 6)

Click on Internet Mail, and then click Properties

Type in your "Name", "Organization", "E-mail Address", "Reply Address" (same as e-mail address), and some type of name that you would like to call these servers (this is the first field in the window) in the empty fields.

Click on the Servers tab.

Type in smtp.trxinc.com for outgoing mail.

Type in pop.trxinc.com for incoming mail.

Type in your e-mail "account name", and your e-mail account "password" in the provided fields.

Click on the Connection tab.

Click on the option: I use a modem to access my e-mail

Under "Use the following Dial-Up Networking Connection", click the pull-down arrow and choose TRX from the list of dial-up connections.

When you are finished, double check all the settings, and then click OK

Click OK again at the "Services" window.

 

How to Use E-mail

How to Receive E-mail

In Outlook Express the procedure is: Start Outlook Express – get connected to TRX - Click on the "Send and Receive" button.

In Outlook 97 the procedure is: Start Outlook 97 – get connected to TRX – Click on the "Tools" menu and then "Check for New Mail"

One of the first messages you receive when you check your mail for the FIRST TIME is a welcome message from our server. This messages explains some details about your account and how to change some internal mail settings with it.

How to Send E-mail

In Outlook Express the procedure is:

Start Outlook

Get connected to TRX

Compose your message by clicking on Compose Message, and entering the person’s e-mail address, subject and your actual body of the message. Then click the Send Mail button. Outlook Express will now try to send your e-mail

In Outlook 97 the procedure is:

Start Outlook 97

Get connected to TRX

Compose you mesasge by clicking on the "Compose" pull-down menu (located at the top of your screen), and clicking New Message.

After composing your message click the Send button.
